Homo Sapiens The head of a man, who is not yet in touch with his surroundings, as though born full grown; like some animals his eyes have not yet fully opened. There are two figures in the background but as the head developed I took these out. ************ The original gouache (impasto water colour) also included oil pastel, ink, pencil, wax and silver paint. The prints were printed by Newcastle Fine Art Printers by the lithographic process, three colours and black on Princess Velvet 350 gsm paper. The edition is a limited one of just 100. The silver created a problem for the printers. They felt that silver ink would not give the same effect as paint. It was decided that the artist would place in the silver by hand on each print; this gives the edition a unique quality. At the base of each print is the following information: Edition number - 1 to 100 over 100, edition date, title, original date of gouache, artist's signature, artist's stamp. If The First Man, Figures on Sicily and Homo Sapiens are bought as a Triptych, each print will be of the same edition number.
